What is Winston AI?

Winston AI Inc. is based in Montreal, was founded in 2022 and was co-founded by Thierry Lavergne. Its Model 4.0, Curia, was released February 17, 2025; the company says it was trained and tested on outputs from 12 LLMs and scored 99.95% overall on a 10,000-sample English dataset generated in February 2025. It says its algorithms are updated weekly.

Winston cites a peer-reviewed study in Information Research reporting 99% accuracy against three other detectors, a 2026 Nature Human Behaviour paper by researchers at Yale, Northeastern and two Hong Kong universities that used Winston to classify 1.1 million U.S. consumer complaints, and a first-place ranking on the crowdsourced DetectArena benchmark as of August 20, 2026.

Winston was not included in the Jabarian and Imas study, and names no institutional customers on its site; its testimonials come from individual teachers, editors and a school district manager.

Winston AI was not in that study.
